Kuyoshiyana Ukwenza

Thandeka Radebe returns to the heart of Maskandi storytelling with Kuyoshiyana Ukwenza, an album that looks at how actions, decisions and circumstances can shape people’s lives differently. The title carries a message of its own, giving the project a thoughtful starting point before listeners even get into the individual songs.

Throughout the album, Thandeka Radebe draws from situations that feel close to everyday life. Love, relationships, personal responsibility and the way people respond to difficult moments all provide material for the stories, with each song offering its own viewpoint rather than simply repeating the same message.

Her vocal delivery remains an important part of the experience, carrying the lyrics over the guitar-led rhythms associated with Maskandi. The instrumentation supports rather than overwhelms the storytelling, leaving enough room for listeners to follow the words and understand the emotions behind them.

Kuyoshiyana Ukwenza also reflects the conversational side of Maskandi, where songs can entertain while raising questions about behaviour, relationships and society. Thandeka uses that space to share observations and experiences in a way that feels connected to the genre’s roots while speaking to present-day listeners.

For those following Thandeka Radebe’s music, Kuyoshiyana Ukwenza brings a new collection of stories to explore. The album is driven less by empty spectacle and more by its subject matter, giving Maskandi fans a project they can listen to closely, discuss and return to as different songs begin to resonate.
